Milan NEMO Clinical Center is located into Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital (Milan). It was born by the will of Fondazione Serena Onlus and from the partnership among UILDM (since 2005), Telethon Foundation (since 2005), Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital (until 2013), AISLA (since 2007), Associazione Famiglie SMA (since 2008), and Slanciamoci non-profit Association (since 2014).
NEMO fully represents horizontal subsidiarity and is a byword of a replicable social enterprise. Its aim is to embrace an actual need that would otherwise be still unanswered.
Milan NEMO Center was established on November 30th, 2007, and its first hospitalization occurred on January 28th, 2008.
Throughout the past years, NEMO has contributed in defining the picture of assistance-related needs:
- A high and urgent request of hospitalization, advanced by patients, from all over the country;
- A need of clinical assistance which is still hidden;
- A growing attention of public institutions towards health care structures;
- A growing attention of national administrations towards neuromuscular diseases and their impact on families.
